Tesla Dominates Spain’s 2025 EV Market as Chinese Rivals Gain Ground

The Model 3 remains the top seller, while new models from Kia and BYD are rapidly climbing the sales charts.

The shift to all-electric mobility is accelerating among Spanish drivers, with battery electric vehicles capturing a growing share of the nation’s auto market. This expansion is largely driven by a new generation of EVs from manufacturers pushing to speed up the transition.

The sales rankings for 2025 provide a clear snapshot of the electric mobility landscape in Spain, highlighting the models that are resonating most with consumers.

Leading the market is the Tesla Model 3, which continues its reign from 2024. Its strong price-to-product ratio makes it a formidable competitor, with sales figures remaining robust across Europe. Its sibling, the Tesla Model Y, holds the second spot, with a recent major update accelerating its commercial performance.

Challenging Tesla’s dominance is the KIA EV3. The small SUV, a relative newcomer, has quickly become a serious rival, securing third place. Just off the podium is the new BYD Dolphin Surf, another recent market entrant that is rapidly gaining popularity.

Among German premium brands, the BMW iX1 leads with a respectable thirteenth-place finish, just ahead of the Mercedes EQA. Audi’s top electric model, the Q4 e-tron, sits further down the list in thirty-fourth position. Meanwhile, the new CUPRA Tavascan is steadily climbing the ranks and approaching the Top 25. The Toyota bZ4X, which entered the market quietly, has solidified its position among the best-sellers, landing in eighth place.

Chinese brands are making significant inroads. BYD stands out as the most prominent, with its Dolphin Surf and Atto 3 models both established in the top ten. The Dolphin and Atto 2 are also performing strongly. MG is another popular Chinese firm, with its MG4 Electric leading its sales and the newly launched MGS5 EV expected to become a bestseller. Other Chinese brands to watch in Spain include Dongfeng, Xpeng, Voyah, and Skywell.

Stellantis also maintains a strong presence, with several of its EVs popular in the Spanish market. The Peugeot E-2008 is the best-selling “Made in Spain” electric car, produced at the company’s facility in Vigo. The automotive group is also working to bolster its position through its Chinese brand Leapmotor, known for its competitively priced vehicles. The Leapmotor T03 has already broken into the Top 25.
