Dacia Launches Upgraded Spring EV in Germany, Holds Line on Price at €16,900
The budget-friendly electric car receives significant performance boosts and a new LFP battery while targeting rivals like BYD and Hyundai.

Dacia has opened orders for its updated 2026 Spring electric vehicle in Germany, introducing significant technical upgrades to Europe’s lowest-priced EV while maintaining its competitive entry-level price point.
The China-built Dacia Spring, which received an aesthetic refresh in 2024, now features a completely revamped powertrain. The previous 33 kW (45 CV) and 48 kW (65 CV) motors have been discontinued in favor of more powerful 52 kW (70 CV) and 75 kW (100 CV) units. This power increase is aimed at improving performance, particularly between 80 and 120 km/h, though the top speed remains capped at 125 km/h.
The upgrades translate to markedly better acceleration, making the vehicle more capable on highways. The base Expression model now achieves 0 to 100 km/h in 12.3 seconds, while the top-tier Extreme trim completes the sprint in just 6.9 seconds.
A key technical shift is the introduction of a new 24.3 kWh LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) battery, the first of its kind used by the Renault Group. This battery provides a WLTP range of up to 226 kilometers, with official energy consumption figures of 12.7 kWh/100 km for the 70 CV version and 12.4 kWh/100 km for the 100 CV model.

Charging capabilities have also been enhanced. DC fast charging power has increased from 30 kW to 40 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 20 to 80 percent in 29 minutes. For AC charging, the 7 kW onboard charger can replenish the battery from 20 to 100 percent in approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes.
Beyond the powertrain, the new Spring has received structural modifications, including a reinforced platform for greater rigidity, improved braking, a new stabilizer bar, and adjusted shock absorbers and springs. Aerodynamic efficiency has also been addressed with new underbody fairings.
In Germany, the brand has priced the new model starting at €16,900. Despite the extensive mechanical and performance upgrades, Dacia has kept the starting price unchanged from the previous version. This pricing strategy signals the company’s intent to defend its market share against emerging competitors like the BYD Dolphin Surf and the Hyundai Inster. The updated model is not yet listed on Dacia’s online configurator for Spain.
