CaixaBank Warns Customers of New Phishing Scam Pushing Malicious App

Fraudsters are using fraudulent text messages to trick users into installing malicious software.

CaixaBank is alerting its customers to a new phishing scam designed to steal personal and banking information through fraudulent text messages.

The scheme involves criminals impersonating the bank and sending messages that instruct users to install a new CaixaBank application. These attacks are a form of phishing, a common method where fraudsters use deceptive communications to lure victims into compromising their financial security.

In an email sent to its clients, the financial institution issued a direct warning about the tactic. “Remember that CaixaBank will never ask you to uninstall our app,” the bank stated. “Nor will we ask you to install a new and different app, or one from outside the official stores (App Store and Google Play). It could be a malicious app.”

The sophistication of these scams is rising, making it more difficult for consumers to distinguish between legitimate communications and fraudulent attempts to access their bank accounts.

CaixaBank advised customers to be wary of any unsolicited messages. In case of doubt, the bank recommends contacting them directly through official channels, such as the ‘Espacio Gestor’ or by phone at 938 87 25 25.
